Matla A Bokone Solar (formerly known as Droogfontein 2 Solar (RF) (Pty) Ltd) is a 75MW solar project that supplies South Africa with 180 000MWh of much-needed green energy each year, it also benefits the local communities of the Kimberley area in the Northern Cape through its many economic development programmes.
Located in the Northern Cape Province near Kimberley, the solar project achieved commercial operation in March 2020, less than 2 years after construction commenced in October 2018.
Part of Round 4 of the South African Government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), Matla A Bokone Solar connects to Eskom’s Warthog switching station.
Matla A Bokone Solar comprises 261 360 solar modules on 278 hectares of agricultural land.
